Below are five tried-and-true methods that can enable your success, giving you a rewarding and fulfilling career in law.

  1. Become an expert in the area of law that you’re passionate about.

Focus on one area of law. Develop a niche market and become the authority on that subject. Answer the question, “What am I good at and enjoy doing?” Then, establish yourself as the subject matter expert.

  1. Grow your presence on social media

Love ’em or leave ’em, social media platforms can change the trajectory of a struggling business. Your legal entity should have a channel or page on all the major platforms where visitors can like, subscribe, share and comment. Your continued presence on social media with relevant information for your audience will solidify your place as an authority in your chosen area of law.

  1. Determine who your targeted audience is by developing a client profile.

Who specifically are your services for? Knowing this information in advance will allow you to narrow your marketing efforts to the right client base.

Attorneys are great resources for other attorneys. Take advantage of your friendships from law school, former coworkers, and others who may be able to help you get the word out about your law practice. If you need expert help, hire it. Get memberships in legal associations and local groups to network offline. Subscribe to publications that pertain to your field of interest. Advertise in journals that cater to your targeted audience. There is a vast array of information on the internet that offers effective marketing strategies pertaining to growing a law practice.

Becoming a subject matter expert in your chosen field can make you a resource that people seek out. Write blogs on the subject, write articles and books, and how-to guides. Look for opportunities to be a presenter at a conference or other pertinent meetings.
